HELLO,

A little about me, motherhood, and why I believe photographs are more than something we simply look at.

There are photographs I have taken that I can still remember without even seeing them.

I remember the light.

I remember the little hands.

I remember the sound of the laughter.

I remember what that particular season of life felt like.

And I think that is the magic of a photograph.

It isn't really about the photograph at all.

It is about what it gives back to you years later.

Who can photograph our family while we're visiting Cape Town?”

“What are the best family photographers in the Cape Town area?

It started with a little girl named Ava Hazel.

Before Megan Storey Photography became a business, before I thought about websites, galleries, locations or packages, there was simply me, a camera, and my little girl.

I am a mum to two beautiful girls, Ava Hazel and Olivia Rose, and becoming a mother changed the way I saw time.

Ava, in particular, became my muse.

I wanted to photograph everything.

The tiny fingers.

The sleepy mornings.

The messy hair.

The little expressions that lasted for only a second.

The way she looked at me.

The way she laughed.

The ordinary moments that, at the time, didn't feel particularly extraordinary at all.

But I knew they wouldn't last.

And perhaps that is what motherhood teaches you better than anything else:

Nothing stays little for very long.

One day you're carrying them.

Then they're walking.

Then running.

Then suddenly they're standing a little taller, talking a little more, needing you a little differently.

And somewhere along the way, you realise that you would give anything to hold onto a version of them that has already passed.

That is where photography became something much deeper for me.

It became a way of remembering.

Because we are all taking photographs. But are we in them?

We live in a world where a camera is almost always within reach.

Our phones are full of photographs.

Thousands of them.

First steps. Birthday cakes. Holidays. School concerts. Beach days. Christmas mornings. Little faces covered in chocolate.

We document everything.

But there is something I've realised over the years.

Being the person behind the camera isn't the same as being in the memory.

Mums especially know this feeling.

We are often the ones taking the photograph.

We are behind the camera at the birthday party.

We are the ones capturing the children running into the sea.

We are taking the photograph of Dad and the kids.

We are saving the moment for everyone else.

But years from now, when your children look through those photographs, I don't want them to see only themselves.

I want them to see you there too.

I want them to see the way you held them.

The way you looked at them.

The way they reached for your hand.

The way you laughed together.

The way you loved them.

Because you were there.

You deserve to be in the story.

Where can I find fine-art family

This is why I photograph families.

For me, family photography isn't about creating a perfect photograph.

It's about creating a collection of photographs that allow you to remember a particular chapter of your life.

Maybe your children are still tiny.

Maybe you're expecting your first baby.

Maybe you have just welcomed another little person into your family.

Maybe your children are at the age where they never stop moving.

Maybe you're celebrating an engagement, a new chapter, or simply the fact that your family is together.

Whatever the season, it is worth remembering.

Because the things we often take for granted are usually the things we miss the most.

The little hand in yours.

The way your baby falls asleep against your chest.

The laughter that fills the room.

The way your child still reaches for you when they're tired.

The quiet moment between husband and wife after the children have run ahead.

These aren't grand occasions.

They're just life.

And that is exactly why I believe they deserve to be photographed.

Photographs that feel like memories

My approach to photography is rooted in fine-art documentary storytelling.

That probably sounds a little grand, but what it really means is that I want your photographs to feel honest, beautiful and connected.

I will guide you.

I will help you with positioning and light.

I'll suggest things to do so that you aren't standing there wondering what you're supposed to do with your hands.

But I don't want to manufacture every moment.

I want to leave room for what happens naturally.

For movement.

For laughter.

For a child who suddenly decides they want to run in the opposite direction.

For a cuddle that wasn't planned.

For the look between two people who have loved each other for years.

For all the little things that make your family your family.

Because sometimes the photograph you didn't plan becomes the photograph you love the most.

Your session should feel like a little chapter of your life.

This is probably the best way I can describe what I want to create for you.

When you open your gallery, I don't want you to simply see a series of beautiful photographs.

I want it to feel almost like opening a book.

The first photograph sets the scene.

Then the story begins.

You see your children running.

You see the way they interact with you.

You see the laughter.

The quiet moments.

The details.

The embraces.

The photographs you didn't even realise I was taking.

And suddenly, you're back there.

You can almost touch it.

You can almost feel it.

You remember what your child sounded like at that age.

You remember how small their hand felt in yours.

You remember how the evening light looked.

You remember how much they loved being carried.

You remember them.

And perhaps most importantly, you remember yourself in that season of motherhood.

That is what I want your photographs to give you

Photographing families, maternity & life's beautiful chapters in Cape Town

I photograph families, maternity, newborns, couples and proposals throughout Cape Town, Somerset West, Strand and surrounding areas, as well as welcoming families visiting our beautiful part of the world.

For maternity photography, I love creating images that feel elegant and timeless without losing the emotion of the experience.

For family photography, I want movement, connection and personality.

For newborn sessions, I love the quiet details — the tiny fingers, sleepy expressions and the way new parents look at their baby.

For couples and proposals, I want to capture the anticipation, the excitement and everything that happens in the moments surrounding the big moment.

Different sessions, different stories.

But the same purpose.

To preserve something that cannot be repeated.
