Family photography in Cape Town and the Western Cape | Megan Storey Photography
There is something incredibly special about being together in a place that means something to your family.
Perhaps you're visiting South Africa for a holiday, returning home to see family, or bringing everyone together from different parts of the world. Maybe the children are growing up, the grandparents are getting older, or it's simply been far too long since you've all been in one photograph together.
Whatever brings you to Cape Town, I'd love to help you preserve a little piece of this time.
I'm Megan, a family and lifestyle photographer based in Somerset West, photographing families throughout the Helderberg and selected locations across Cape Town. My approach is natural, relaxed and documentary-inspired. I want to capture the way your children laugh, the way your family holds one another, the little in-between moments and all the things you might not even realise are happening.
Because, to me, family photographs should feel like you.

Booking a family photography session while visiting South Africa
If you're travelling to Cape Town from overseas or visiting family here, arranging a photography session can be a beautiful way to remember your time together.
You don't need to plan anything elaborate. We can choose a location that suits your family, whether that's a quiet stretch of beach, a beautiful outdoor setting or somewhere meaningful to you.
Some families prefer a relaxed afternoon by the ocean. Others want photographs with their children running barefoot through the sand, grandparents embracing their grandchildren, or everyone together for a photograph that will be treasured for years to come.
If you're visiting with extended family, we can include everyone in the session, creating a combination of group photographs and smaller, more intimate moments between family members.
My goal is to make the experience feel effortless, so you can spend less time worrying about the photographs and more time enjoying being together

Beach sessions
If you love the ocean, a beach session is a wonderful option. The movement of the water, the open landscape and the freedom for children to explore create a relaxed atmosphere for natural family photographs.
Nature and outdoor sessions
For families who prefer greenery, textured landscapes and a quieter setting, we can explore an outdoor location that complements the look and feel you love.
A meaningful family location
Sometimes the most beautiful setting isn't the most famous one. It might be somewhere close to your holiday accommodation, a place you visited as children, or a location where your family has gathered for years.
If you're unsure where to go, don't worry. I can help you choose a location based on your family, the time of year and the kind of photographs you envision.

Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape offer some beautiful settings for family photography.
Fun Facts
What should you wear for your family session?
My photography style leans towards natural colours, soft textures and timeless imagery. Creams, whites, earthy browns, muted greens and linen fabrics photograph beautifully in many outdoor settings.
You don't need matching outfits. Instead, choose clothing that works together without everyone looking identical. Comfort is especially important for little ones, because I want them to be able to move, play and be themselves.
Once your session is booked, we can discuss your location and the overall look you're hoping to achieve.
What if my children don't want to pose?
That's absolutely fine.
Your children don't need to stand still, smile on command or behave perfectly for the camera. Some of my favourite photographs happen when children are exploring, holding a parent's hand, collecting shells or laughing at something completely unexpected.
I'll guide you when needed, but I also leave room for the moments to unfold naturally.
I believe the beauty of family photography lies in connection rather than perfection. You don't have to know how to pose, and you don't need to arrive with a plan for every photograph.
Just come as you are.

Let's capture this chapter of your family's story
